چکیده

We present a framework to extract mesh features from unstructured two-manifold surfaces. Our method computes a collection of piecewise linear curves describing the salient features of surfaces, such as edges and ridge lines. We extend these basic techniques to a multiresolution setting which improves the quality of the results and accelerates the extraction process. The framework is semiautomatic, that is, the user is required to input a few control parameters and to select the operators to be applied to the input surface. Our mesh feature extraction algorithm can be used as a preprocessor for a variety of applications in geometric modeling including mesh fairing and subdivision. Contourlet-Based Edge Extraction for Image Registration

Image registration is a crucial step in most image processing tasks for which the final result is achieved from a combination of various resources. In general, the majority of registration methods consist of the following four steps: feature extraction, feature matching, transform modeling, and finally image resampling. As the accuracy of a registration process is highly dependent to the fe...

Adaptive Multiresolution and Quality 3D Meshing from Imaging Data

This paper presents an algorithm to extract adaptive and quality 3D meshes directly from volumetric imaging data primarily Computed Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). The extracted tetrahedral and hexahedral meshes are extensively used in the Finite Element Method (FEM). Our comprehensive approach combines bilateral and anisotropic (feature specific) diffusion filtering, with...

Ocean modeling on unstructured meshes

4 Unstructured meshes are common in coastal modeling, but still rarely used 5 for modeling the large-scale ocean circulation. Existing and new projects 6 aim at changing this situation by proposing models enabling a regional 7 focus (multiresolution) in global setups, without nesting and open bound8 aries. Among them, finite-volume models using the C-grid discretization on 9 Voronoi-centroidal ...

Multiresolution Approximate Inverse Preconditioners

We introduce a new preconditioner for elliptic PDE’s on unstructured meshes. Using a wavelet-inspired basis we compress the inverse of the matrix, allowing an effective sparse approximate inverse by solving the sparsity vs. accuracy conflict. The key issue in this compression is to use second-generation wavelets which can be adapted to the unstructured mesh, the true boundary conditions, and ev...

Multiresolution hierarchies on unstructured triangle meshes

The use of polygonal meshes for the representation of highly complex geometric objects has become the de facto standard in most computer graphics applications. Especially triangle meshes are preferred due to their algorithmic simplicity, numerical robustness, and efficient display. The possibility to decompose a given triangle mesh into a hierarchy of differently detailed approximations enables...
